Pulmonology is the field of medicine that deals with diseases of the lungs. These include infectious pulmonary diseases (e.g. pneumonia, bronchitis, tuberculosis, etc), chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases (e.g. emphysema, refractory asthma, and chronic bronchitis), hereditary pulmonary diseases (eg. cystic fibrosis and alpha 1 antitrypsin deficiency), among others.
